
“I love French food and once you’re trained as a chef, simple French like a coq au vin is not that much of a challenge,” she said. “The idea of this place, a buvette, where you can get something to eat and drink at any time, appeals to me.”
Not only has she switched culinary allegiances, she is doing so in a location steeped in memory for many New Yorkers, the former Pink Tea Cup in Greenwich Village. The tin ceiling and an old-fashioned wooden cold box in the basement are about all that are left. There is a new counter with a dozen seats, a handful of bare tables, and up a few steps, a communal table over which hangs Warren Muller’s chandelier, which looks like a kitchen drawer that’s been hit by a tornado — whisks, spatulas, bottles and such all twisted together with lights...
